MOMENT OF ENCOUNTER DEVOTIONAL

By Prophet Dr. Abiodun Adesida

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT

When Jacob was about to die, he gathered his sons and spoke prophetically concerning their futures. When he came to Joseph, he did not pretend that Joseph's life had been easy.

He mentioned fruitfulness, but he also mentioned arrows.

He mentioned blessings, but he also remembered battles.

Joseph's testimony was not that nobody fought him. His testimony was that those who fought him could not stop what God had planted inside him.

That is Christianity in real life.

Sometimes we have presented blessing as a life where nothing goes wrong. But Genesis 49 presents something deeper: a blessed man can be attacked, disappointed, betrayed and misunderstood, and still remain fruitful.

Let us itemize the blessing of Joseph.

1. “JOSEPH IS A FRUITFUL BOUGH” , THE BLESSING OF PRODUCTIVITY

Joseph was not merely existing; he was producing.

He produced results in Potiphar's house. He became useful in prison. He produced solutions before Pharaoh. Wherever Joseph was planted, something improved.

This is an important lesson for the 21st-century Christian.

Christianity should not make us professionally lazy, intellectually stagnant or socially irresponsible. Prayer is powerful, but after saying Amen, there should eventually be evidence of wisdom, diligence, integrity and productivity.

Some people want Joseph's blessing but dislike Joseph's work ethic.

They want to become Prime Minister by prophecy while sleeping through responsibility!

Moral lesson: Wherever God places you, add value.

2. “A FRUITFUL BOUGH BY A WELL” , THE BLESSING OF THE RIGHT SOURCE

A tree remains fruitful because its roots have access to water.

Joseph survived because his life drew strength from somewhere deeper than his circumstances.

Your salary is a resource, but God is your Source.

Your connections are resources, but God is your Source.

Your certificate is valuable, but it is not your Source.

In our generation, people sometimes maintain their social-media presence more carefully than their spiritual presence. The phone is charged to 100%, but the soul has been blinking “low battery” since last month!

Stay connected to the Well.

3. “WHOSE BRANCHES RUN OVER THE WALL” — THE BLESSING THAT BREAKS LIMITATIONS

The wall was there, but Joseph's branches crossed it.

His brothers created a wall of rejection.

Potiphar's wife created a wall of false accusation.

Prison created a physical wall.

Yet none became the boundary of his destiny.

Some walls cannot be removed immediately; sometimes God simply causes your branches to grow beyond them.

Do not make your background your boundary.

Do not make rejection your identity.

Do not allow yesterday's failure to write tomorrow's biography.

4. “THE ARCHERS HAVE SORELY GRIEVED HIM” , THE REALITY OF OPPOSITION

Jacob did not hide Joseph's wounds.

Joseph was hated, sold, falsely accused, imprisoned and forgotten.

Being blessed does not mean you will never be attacked.

Sometimes people oppose you precisely because you are fruitful. Nobody throws stones at a tree that has nothing worth collecting.

But there is also a moral warning here: do not become an archer in somebody else's story.

Do not destroy another person's reputation because you are jealous.

Do not manufacture accusations because somebody is progressing.

Do not use gossip as your bow and another person's character as your target.

You cannot sincerely pray for Joseph's blessing while behaving like Joseph's brothers.

5. “BUT HIS BOW ABODE IN STRENGTH” — THE BLESSING OF RESILIENCE

Joseph was wounded, but he did not become wicked.

That may be one of his greatest miracles.

He suffered betrayal without becoming permanently bitter.

He experienced injustice without making injustice his lifestyle.

He received power without using it for revenge.

That is spiritual maturity.

The world says, “Do to them what they did to you.”

Joseph's life says, “Don't allow what they did to you to determine who you become.”

Your greatest victory may not be defeating your enemies. It may be refusing to become like them.

6. “THE ARMS OF HIS HANDS WERE MADE STRONG” — THE BLESSING OF DIVINE STRENGTH

Joseph's strength was not merely psychological determination.

Jacob declared that his strength came “by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob.”

There are seasons when intelligence is not enough.

Connections are not enough.

Money is not enough.

Experience is not enough.

You need strength beyond yourself.

Modern Christianity must rediscover dependence upon God without abandoning personal responsibility. Grace is not an excuse for laziness; grace empowers responsible living.

7. “BLESSINGS OF HEAVEN ABOVE” — SPIRITUAL BLESSING

Joseph's blessing reached upward.

Life is more than money, houses, titles and applause.

A person can be materially comfortable and spiritually bankrupt.

The blessing of heaven includes God's presence, wisdom, peace, direction, favour and the grace to live rightly.

Do not become so successful on earth that heaven becomes irrelevant to you.

8. “BLESSINGS OF THE DEEP THAT LIETH UNDER” , HIDDEN RESOURCES

There are blessings you can see, and there are resources God has placed beneath the surface.

Joseph had administrative ability that the pit could not reveal.

He had leadership capacity that slavery could not destroy.

He had governmental wisdom waiting for the right season.

Never conclude that what you see today is all God deposited inside you.

There may still be deep things beneath the surface.

Keep learning.

Keep growing.

Keep praying.

Keep developing yourself.

9. “BLESSINGS OF THE BREASTS, AND OF THE WOMB” — GENERATIONAL BLESSING

Joseph's blessing was not designed to terminate with Joseph.

God desires blessings that affect families, children and generations.

This confronts our generation's obsession with individual success.

If your prosperity destroys your marriage, neglects your children and leaves no godly legacy, something is wrong.

True blessing asks:

What will my children inherit from my character, not merely from my bank account?

10. “THEY SHALL BE ON THE HEAD OF JOSEPH” — DISTINCTION AFTER AFFLICTION

The same Joseph whose brothers removed his coat eventually received royal clothing from Pharaoh.

Men can remove a garment; they cannot cancel God's purpose.

Joseph teaches us that delay is not necessarily denial, and adversity is not proof of abandonment.

The pit did not cancel the dream.

Slavery did not cancel the dream.

False accusation did not cancel the dream.

Prison did not cancel the dream.

So do not allow one difficult chapter to make you throw away the entire book.

Reflection

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

The blessing of Joseph was not the absence of trouble; it was the presence of divine purpose in spite of trouble.

Be fruitful when celebrated.

Be fruitful when ignored.

Maintain integrity when nobody is watching.

Forgive when revenge becomes possible.

Remain connected to God when success finally arrives.

And above everything else, never become the kind of person you once prayed for God to deliver you from.

Joseph's brothers wounded him.

Potiphar's wife lied against him.

The butler forgot him.

But none of them could rewrite what God had spoken concerning him.

Your wall may be high, but keep growing.

There comes a season when the branch discovers that the wall was never the end of the garden.

Prayer

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, make my life fruitful spiritually, morally, professionally and relationally.
2. Lord, strengthen my hands against every battle designed to weaken my purpose.
3. Father, give me grace to grow beyond every limitation surrounding my life.
4. Lord, heal me from bitterness and keep me from becoming like those who wounded me.
5. Let the blessings of heaven above and the deep beneath rest upon my life and generations.
6. Father, make my life a testimony that opposition cannot cancel divine purpose.
