WHEN THE SONS OF THE PROPHET DOES NOT HAVE THE SPIRIT OF THE PROPHETS
Prophecy Without Prayer
There is a strange Christianity growing today: everybody wants prophecy, but few people want prayer.
Announce an all-night prayer meeting and suddenly everybody is busy.
Announce a prophetic service—“WHO IS BEHIND YOUR PROBLEM?”—and people will arrive before the ushers! 😄
“Prophet, what do you see?”
“Daddy, when is my breakthrough coming?”
“Who is fighting me?”
But ask, “When last did you seriously pray?”
Suddenly—network problem!
THEY SAW IT, BUT HE PURSUED IT
The sons of the prophets in 2 Kings 2 were spiritually sensitive. They knew Elijah would be taken away.
At Bethel, they knew.
At Jericho, they knew.
Their revelation was accurate.
Yet none of them received Elijah’s mantle.
They had revelation, but Elisha had pursuit.
In verse 7, fifty of them “stood to view afar off.”
What a picture of modern Christianity!
Some people can watch prophetic programmes for three hours but cannot pray for thirty minutes. They know every trending prophet and who “sees deeply,” but their personal prayer altar is cold.
Knowing every prophet in town is not one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit!
WHY DO SOME PEOPLE KEEP FALLING BUT NEVER RISE DIFFERENT?
This may also explain why sometimes it is the same people we laid hands on during yesterday's prayer programme who fall under the anointing today—and may still be the same people falling again tomorrow—yet very little changes in their spiritual lives.
Please understand: falling under the power of God is not the problem. The problem is rising without pursuing the God whose power touched you.
You fell yesterday.
You fell today.
You may fall again tomorrow.
But when will your prayerlessness fall?
When will that bad character fall?
When will spiritual laziness fall?
When will disobedience fall?
When will you rise and build your own prayer altar?
Otherwise, we may spend years repeating the same spiritual cycle: another programme, another prophecy, another laying on of hands, another falling—and still no personal pursuit of God.
That is the danger illustrated by the sons of the prophets.
They were around the prophetic.
They recognised the supernatural.
They had revelation.
But they remained spectators while Elisha pursued.
An encounter should produce pursuit.
The evidence that God touched you is not merely that you fell under the anointing; it is that you rise with a greater hunger to know Him, obey Him and seek Him.
“PROPHET, JUST TELL ME WHAT YOU SEE!”
Prophetic ministry is biblical, but prophecy was never designed to replace your personal walk with God.
A prophet can give you a word, but he cannot maintain your prayer altar for you.
Some Christians have practically outsourced their spiritual lives:
Before marriage: “Prophet, what do you see?”
Before business: “Daddy, what do you see?”
Before travelling: “Sir, what do you see?”
Very soon, before eating jollof rice: “Man of God, please check this rice spiritually!” 😄
There comes a point when you must pray and know God for yourself.
DON'T USE PROPHECY AS A SLEEPING TABLET
Someone says:
“I see international doors!”
You shout, “I RECEIVE!”
Wonderful—but please get your passport and prepare yourself.
“I see financial greatness!”
Amen—but receive financial discipline too.
“Your ministry will shake nations!”
Glory to God—but you don't study Scripture, pray, develop character or submit to discipline.
Which nations exactly are we planning to shake?
Paul told Timothy concerning the prophecies spoken over him:
«“…that thou by them mightest war a good warfare.” — 1 Timothy 1:18»
Prophecy gave Timothy something to war with, not something to sleep on.
Some prophetic words should send you to your knees before they send you to the microphone.
ELISHA DIDN'T JUST SHOUT, “I RECEIVE!”
Elisha kept following Elijah.
When Elijah told him to remain behind, Elisha repeatedly answered:
«“As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee.”»
Eventually Elijah asked:
«“Ask what I shall do for thee…”»
Elisha replied:
«“Let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.”»
Elisha did not remain at Bethel shouting:
“Papa has declared it! I receive!”
He followed.
He persisted.
He crossed Jordan.
And when he returned, he carried evidence.

Reflection
STOP COLLECTING PROPHECIES LIKE RECEIPTS
Some believers have notebooks full of prophecies:
2023 — Uncommon favour.
2024 — Overflow.
2025 — Mega breakthrough.
2026 — Unstoppable enlargement.
Wonderful collection!
But where is the prayer life?
Where is obedience?
Where is preparation?
Where is character?
Don't become so busy collecting words from prophets that you neglect the God who speaks.
Your pastor can pray for you.
Your prophet can pray with you.
But nobody can permanently pray instead of you.
Jesus said:
«“Watch and pray…” — Matthew 26:41»
🔥 FINAL CHARGE
The sons of the prophets saw.
Elisha pursued.
They stood afar off watching.
Elisha crossed Jordan following.
And eventually they confessed:
«“The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha.” — 2 Kings 2:15»
Never become so interested in prophecy that you lose interest in prayer.
Don't be satisfied merely to fall under the anointing. Rise under the responsibility of the encounter.
Don't merely search for a prophet who can see for you.
Build an altar where you can seek God for yourself.

PRAYER
Father, deliver me from revelation without relationship and encounter without pursuit. Revive my prayer altar. May every genuine prophecy and encounter produce prayer, obedience, character and spiritual growth in me. I refuse to remain a spectator around Your presence; draw me deeper into You, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Prophet Dr. Abiodun Adesida
