SPIRITUAL ADVANTAGE 2 — COVENANT BACKUP

PROPHET DR. ABIODUN ADESIDA

Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.”
— Esther 6:13 (KJV)»

MESSAGE

Men are in sizes.

People may wear the same clothes, sit in the same office, write the same examination and face the same opposition, yet spiritually, they may not be standing on the same ground.

And sincerely, what you do not know can hurt you.

Haman thought Mordecai was merely one stubborn man sitting at the king’s gate. He did not know there was history behind that man. He did not know there was covenant behind him.

When Haman began to fall, his own wife and advisers practically told him:

“Sir, if this man is truly of the seed of the Jews, you are in trouble!”

Imagine receiving your prophecy of defeat from your own house!

Haman was preparing gallows; heaven was preparing promotion.

Haman had money, influence and political connection. Mordecai had something Haman underestimated:

COVENANT BACKUP.

Sometimes the difference between two people is not what they know, but what is standing behind them.

WHEN INTELLIGENCE MEETS AN ALTAR

I learnt something interesting through one of my children.

One day, another child took the first position from my child. Jokingly, I asked:

“How did you allow somebody to take your first position?”

Unknown to me, my child took the matter seriously!

The following day, my child asked the other child, “How did you come first?”

Her answer was innocent: their church had held an anointing service, and she was anointed.

It sounded childish, but something struck me.

My child was standing on intelligence; the other child believed she was standing on spiritual reinforcement.

From then, I became more deliberate about praying over my children and committing them daily into God's hands.

Please understand me: anointing oil is not a replacement for reading!

Study hard—but have covenant backup.

Prepare your CV—but have covenant backup.

Develop your skills—but have covenant backup.

David said:

«“I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts.”
— 1 Samuel 17:45»

That is covenant consciousness.

ADVANTAGES OF COVENANT BACKUP

1. DIVINE PRESERVATION

There are dangers your eyes never saw—accidents that never happened, arrows that never landed and plans that collapsed before reaching you.

«“He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”
— Psalm 91:11»

Sometimes you call it luck.

Heaven calls it preservation.

2. DIVINE FAVOUR

Favour is an advantage.

Joseph had competence, but competence alone could not move a prisoner from prison to palace in one day.

«“And the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour…”
— Genesis 39:21»

Not every appointment is decided by credentials alone. Sometimes ten people are qualified, but one person is remembered.

Credentials qualify you.

Favour distinguishes you.

Sometimes the door says, “No vacancy,” and favour whispers, “Create one.”

3. VICTORY IN BATTLE

Israel did not prevail merely because of superior military strength. Their greatest advantage was God.

«“One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the LORD your God, he it is that fighteth for you.”
— Joshua 23:10»

One chasing one thousand?

That is not military mathematics.

That is covenant mathematics!

When God enters the equation, ordinary calculations begin to misbehave.

4. DIVINE DIRECTION AND WISDOM

«“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go.”
— Psalm 32:8»

Some troubles don't need deliverance; they need direction.

Sometimes your greatest miracle is God stopping you from entering the wrong business, relationship, agreement or journey.

Daniel also enjoyed unusual wisdom because “God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom” (Daniel 1:17).

Study—but pray.

Think—but listen to God.

Intelligence is powerful; intelligence assisted by divine wisdom is an advantage.

5. DIVINE HEALTH AND STRENGTH

«“I am the LORD that healeth thee.”
— Exodus 15:26»

Covenant gives us confidence in God's healing and sustaining power, but it does not cancel wisdom.

Please don't eat three mountains of pounded yam at midnight and declare:

“I have covenant backup!”

That is not faith.

That is dietary rebellion!

Take care of your body, seek appropriate medical care, pray and trust God.

6. RESTORATION AND REMEMBRANCE

God declares:

«“I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten.”
— Joel 2:25»

What men call finished, God may call paused.

Mordecai experienced this dramatically. One night, the king could not sleep (Esther 6:1). Records were opened and Mordecai was remembered.

Who prescribed insomnia for the king? Heaven!

God can cause your forgotten file to be reopened and your name mentioned in rooms where you are absent.

7. GENERATIONAL MERCY

God told Abraham:

«“And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee…”
— Genesis 17:7»

Some children are walking through doors they never personally knocked on because somebody prayed before they were born.

Parents, leave your children more than houses, land and bank accounts.

Leave them an altar of prayer.
Leave them godly instruction.
Leave them integrity.
Leave them covenant heritage.

COVENANT IS NOT MAGIC

There is, however, an important warning.

Covenant backup is not carrying oil without obedience and shouting, “I am a covenant child!” while deliberately living anyhow.

Abraham walked with God.

Joseph feared God.

Daniel maintained conviction.

David trusted God.

Covenant speaks of relationship, faith and obedience.

You cannot deliberately reject covenant responsibility while demanding covenant benefits.

Grace is free, but discipleship is serious.

FINAL THOUGHT

Haman saw an ordinary gatekeeper.

Zeresh saw something deeper:

“If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews…”

In other words:

“Haman, investigate who is behind this man before you continue this battle!”

Daniel had lions.

Joseph had a pit.

David had Goliath.

Esther had Haman.

Israel had Pharaoh.

But none of those enemies wrote the final chapter.

Haman even built gallows for Mordecai without knowing he was ordering the furniture for his own funeral!

So build your intelligence.

Develop your competence.

Get your certificates.

Prepare professionally.

Work hard.

But above everything:

HAVE COVENANT BACKUP.

Sometimes the battle is not merely between two people.

It is between what is behind one person and what is behind the other.

Reflection

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Never measure a person only by what you can see. Some people look ordinary until you discover the covenant standing behind them.

Prayer

PRAYER

Father, establish me and my household firmly in Your covenant. Let Your favour, preservation, wisdom, direction and mercy distinguish us. Let Your covenant speak louder than every opposition, and may my children and generations after me enjoy the blessing of walking faithfully with You. Let every battle confronting Your purpose for my life discover that I am not standing alone. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
